Part
nesting

Upload the DXF with your parts, whatever their shape, and I’ll work out how to nest them on the sheet with the least waste. You get a DXF for each sheet, ready for your CNC, laser or plasma.

Units

1 · The parts

A DXF with the parts drawn at full size. Each closed shape is a part; anything inside it, its holes. If a part is drawn several times, I count it.

2 · The material

What are you cutting with?

The size of the sheet or plate, in millimetres. If you don’t say how many you have, I’ll work out how many you need.

Remnant cut

A straight cut from edge to edge that separates what is left of the sheet into a rectangular offcut you can keep; only the material between the parts is thrown away. Automatic: I pack the parts into the corner and, on each sheet, pick one or two cuts in whichever direction leaves the most offcut. Vertical: I pack the parts to the left and the offcut is on the right. Horizontal: to the bottom, and the offcut is on top.
